Purpose
To ensure that Stallions, Colts & Rigs are easily identifiable, handled and appropriately restrained to reduce the likelihood of causing harm to people or horses.
Principles
Policy
1. A rig is defined as a male horse that is carrying either one or two testicles concealed in its abdomen.
2. Stallions, Colts & Rigs are to wear official ‘discs’ at all times whilst at rally – these discs are to be worn on both sides of head collars, bridles or saddle-blankets to identify to others that the horse is, in fact, a stallion.
3. No stallions should be moved around any venue without a ‘bit’ in his mouth – this can be either bridles’ or rearing bit.
4. No stallion is to be restrained with only twine when tied to a truck/float. Stallions must be contained within a float, truck, stable, yard or securely tied by a pull back collar whilst not being ridden.
5. Stallions are not to be housed in portable electric taped yards.
6. Riders should be 18 years and over to ride stallions either for warming up purposes or competition purposes at events.
7. Handlers should be 18 years and over.
8. It is the stallion owners/riders responsibility to ensure that possible safety precautions are taken.
9. Floats/Trucks that transport stallions must display the official sticker notifying that there is a stallion on board.
10. The discs and stickers are available from the HRCAV.
To ensure that Stallions, Colts & Rigs are easily identifiable, handled and appropriately restrained to reduce the likelihood of causing harm to people or horses.
Principles
- This Policy is designed to make things easier for stallion owners, riders and handlers.
- If the policy is adhered to the likelihood of an accident involving a loose stallion will be minimised. It is understood that ‘accidents’ can happen but taking all possible precautions and making all riders aware of the presence of a stallion minimises the possibility of accidents.
- The use of identification discs/stickers is compulsory at all HRCAV events.
